Windows 11 KB5012643 Update Issue

There is a critical bug in the latest Windows 11 update (KB5012643) that has affected some important Windows system files. As a result the following vMix features have been affected:

  • Stream Deck communication
  • Being able to host a vMix Call
  • Logging in or setting up some live streams
To fix, please roll back your Windows Update to the previous version. For instructions, see the below link and click "Remove an installed Windows Update":

1. Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates
2. On the list that appears, select the KB5012643 update from the list, and then select Uninstall.

We do not recommend updating Windows 11 until Microsoft are able to release a more stable fix.

UPDATE: Microsoft have acknowledged the bug in this update. See the below link under the "Known issues in this update" title. Issue discussing .NET Framework 3.5 is the issue affecting vMix:

Microsoft are "working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release."

Current Features Affected

Stream Deck
With this issue, the Stream Deck will be unable to communicate with vMix. When buttons are pressed, they may produce a little yellow exclamation caution symbol.

vMix Call
After setting up a vMix Call in vMix, a call is unable to be established. When opening the Call Manager, the following error is shown:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Runtime.Serialization, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

   at PhoenixLibrary.JSONHelper.ConvertToXML(String jsonData)
   at PhoenixLibrary.WebRTCSession.MessageThread()

Logging into some streaming providers
Trying to log in and connect to some streaming services via the Stream Settings Window may be affected. The result can be that it does not detect a successful login from your browser. Or that it also produces the following similar error:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Runtime.Serialization, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Data Sources
Some Data Sources may not load. The Data Sources Manager window will show an error in the top right corner when opening it. Similar to previous errors mentioned:

Could not load file or assembly 'System.Runtime.Serialization, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies.
